Design vs Tech
While back-end technology has become more and more abstracted and powerful with frameworks like .Net, Rails, and their Java counterparts, the possibilities with front-end technology have grown increasingly complex. The web needs more front-end architects before poor implementations of front-end technology hobble the potential benefits of recent advances. - Garrett Dimon
I was inspired by this blog. I believe that the web is creating the need for disciplined designers to not only have design sense but also be able to know what is happens with the technology that makes it all possible.
I have found that lines are most definitely drawn in these two arenas. What really bugs me is when a designer builds a site without thought of the architecture that will make it happen.
My recent struggle is going to a school that supports the design but lacks the emphasis on the technical aspects that I want to learn. I am doing some research to see how I can boost my skills. I am not a book learner so this is painful.
So for now I am using trial and error and looking at other peoples code to see how it works. The thing is to know a little about the theory. We shall see… time will tell.
