It Might Get Loud

If you play an instrument or are a lover of music I recommend going to see “It Might Get Loud” a documentary staring Jack White, Jimmy Page and The Edge.
Part designer, part programmer, part musician and audio engineer, and a healthy dollop of videographer/director/editor.

An amazing 1500 hours of stop motion animation with killer 8 bit music. Created by Swedish band and creative team #1 and #2 of Rymdreglage. Their fancy website is pretty neat too: http://www.rymdreglage.se/.

Sigur Rós played the Greek Theater on October 3rd. Great show. This was my first time seeing them and I was totally impressed with their sound and their stage presence. Given that the music is fairly calm and meditative most of the time, they showed tremendous energy.
The whole time everyone was praying that it wouldn’t rain and it didn’t. It was not until the last song in their encore, as if it was cued to the final crescendo, it started to rain. Awesome!!!

David Byrne & Brian Eno have released a new album entitled “Everything That Happens Will Happen Today”. What I have heard so far sounds amazing, like a warm blanket or meeting a good old friend for a cold beer in a pub, sounds like home. Ok that was cliché, “Home” being one of the new tracks off the new album. Like most artist these days they are putting the album out themselves and is available for download on their website.
What I am even more excited about is hillmancurtis’s short film about this new album and their creative process. What you see here is a teaser. The full version is included in the deluxe CD/DVD package, designed by Stefan Sagmeister and available at www.everythingthathappens.com

I had the privilege of seeing Billy Bragg at The Fillmore here in San Francisco on June 11th, 2008. I had seen him briefly before at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival in the Golden Gate park but nothing like this. This time I was right up front and center and it was amazing.
Billy Bragg is a new found love for me, I know there are die-hards out there that may say this show was too soft, well I dug it. His new album “Mr Love & Justice” is a great album and I especially like the solo acoustic version of the album you get when you buy the CD. Yes I bought music. Billy’s ability to tell a story through his lyrics and music is astonishing and his views on the world were also a delight and inspiration. There are not too many prolific song writers out there anymore and I consider him one of them.
For me what blew me away was here is one guy with a electric and acoustic guitar and he had the audience’s full attention. No band , no electronics, just pure song writing. This was an inspiration for me. I have been trying to put together a band for some time now, not making it my full mission in life but putting some time into it, with little to no success. This inspired me to maybe forget about the other players and just play myself. Take some singing lessons and get out there and whale.
I will let you know how this goes in the coming months. First goal is the start taking some singing lessons.
