Alan Watts, South Park Style

// July 26th, 2007 // No Comments » // Motion Graphics, Politics, Spirituality, TV Show

This morning I came across this posting from Motionographer on a couple motion pieces done on Alan Watts recordings ala South Park. Originally posted on Cold Hard Flash. For one the animation is great, I think Trey and Matt would approve. I am not sure who made these pieces for there is no credit. If anyone knows who did them I would love to know.

I had heard of Allan Watts before in my inquiring into Buddhism but never heard his recordings. I now have to get all his books and find recordings of his speakings. There is also a great article from Reason Magazine about the creators of South Park and their political and religious believes and outlook on life. Great stuff, solid. There is another gem here if you want to see some more animations.

Fidel Castro

Is this the last of the great dictator?

Fidel Castro

I thought I might relay some news:

Having to undergo an operation for an acute intestinal breakdown with sustained bleeding; Fidel Castro 79 has transferred power of the island nation to his younger brother Raul 75. According to a posted message by Fidel on Cuba’s National Information Agency website, “The operation obliges me to rest for several weeks, away from my responsibilities and functions of office.”

An Inconvenient Truth

// June 25th, 2006 // No Comments » // Film, Politics

So I went and watched An Inconvenient Truth the other night with my girlfriend. I am usually not a bleeding heart for these issues but this documentary had a lasting effect on my views and actions. With that said I care and have always cared about environmental issues but never saw anything compelling, or the answer to the issues. The information given is nothing new but the fact that it is presented with visuals in a film format make you want to listen more. Funny how design can influence… not really.

Wal-Mart Documentary

// May 17th, 2006 // 3 Comments » // Film, Politics

Recently I watched the documentary Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price by Robert Greenwald. I was already aware of a lot of the issues brought up by this film but I had no idea of the magnatude this business inflicts on our country and the rest of the world for that matter.

Watch the film and never shop at a Wal-Mart again in your life. But I pose these thoughts to whom ever:

Where do you draw the line on using and buying products made in other countries for lower wages? (How’s that coffee tasting?) How many things do you use in one day that have come from other countries. How many people profited off those items? Who profited and was it fair?

If I had to answer all these questions I think I would have to make my own clothes, not use my Apple PowerBook, wear homemade sandals, walk or ride my bike everywhere, and eat only vegetables I grew myself from my own garden.

My point is where do you draw the line? Regardless of your answer this film will get you thinking as it has for me. Watch it.

Schiavo’s New Bill: What does it really mean?

// March 21st, 2005 // No Comments » // Politics

So I am watching the news and on comes this story of Mrs. Schiavo. I was watching how the whole congress came together for an emergency meeting to allow this womans life to go to trial in a Federal court.

I am sympatetic to the family. But I think after 15 years of being in a vegitative state I would not want to live anymore. The only person who has the legal, and moral right to let her wife go or live is her husband. Does the goverment really want to say who lives and who dies. Who has the right to life and who doesn’t?

I think that is exactly what they want. I belive this is a bill that could be used to fuel the abortion issues the “right” would like to see come to law.

What do you think?

I should say that I was happy to see that this bill was worded for only Mrs. Schiavo, or was it? Or does it matter. This I think is a tragic situation, but is the goverment the one who should make the decision? On another note if she did have a living will this would not be an issue.
