A New Dos Picas

// August 9th, 2009 // No Comments » // Design, Personal, Wordpress

Finally took some time to update my personal blog. Woo Hoo… and speaking of Woo I’m using a WooThemes template now, pretty slick right out of the box and for being free.

For my 3 readers there may be some areas that still need work. I’ll still be moving things around bare with me.

More later…

Retro MacOS Wordpress Theme

// August 21st, 2007 // No Comments » // Design, Web, Wordpress

I saw this posted up in my feeds from TUAW and was shot back to being in school getting my first dose of the computing world on a Monochrome Apple II. Folders! Windows! oh my…

The theme created by Stuart Brown is a great rendition of the old Macintosh System 6 OS.  Using Wordpress myself I love to see people take the time to develop a theme for this great platform. I promise myself that after a large project goes away I will create a new template for myself. Thanks for the inspiration there Stuart.

WordCamp 2007

// July 22nd, 2007 // No Comments » // Technology, Web, Wordpress

I recently moved to Dreamhost, like a week ago, which kind of sucks as all visitors of WordCamp 2007 where given a free year of hosting from Dreamhost….. nice… but I still got $99 off my purchase from another online coupon.

So the site is up, same design but I have upgraded to Wordpress 2.2 and running on Dreamhost, very happy.

The first day of Wordcamp was great, I would say the highlight for me was listening to Matt Cutts from Google on SEO optimization. His presentation along with the open bar at Lucky 13 was worth the $25 of admission alone. It has been inspiring to be surrounded by other people who are passionate about the web and all the technology and social aspects of it and where its going. There was all kinds of people who showed up about a little over 200 people I am told. Some as far away as Australia…. dang.

How has this conference effected my view of blogging and the web? Well for one my goal before next years WordCamp is to increase my blog readership by 1/2, maybe even double it. Two, I will never show up to an event without business cards. A fault I have known for some time now and in doing so I have not fully committed myself to the industry of design, web design, web development, etc.

So what else has WordCamp inspired me to do?

For quite some time I have wanted to use WordPress as a CMS for a client sites I build but have either not had the time or was scared to try a new technique out on a paid gig. After coming here I have decided that my next site I will use WordPress as a CMS. A band by the name of 60 Watt Kid, an experimental band out of San Francisco CA who I have been working with shooting some video footage has asked me to build their new band site. What a perfect candidate!

In day two now of WordCamp arriving a little be later in the afternoon, due to a night out on the town, I look forward todays sessions. So far so good.

Now is it “Niche” or “Niche” …
